The idea How to Contribute

Yosemite’s natural Fire Fall. Horsetail Falls, aka El Capitan Falls, drops 1500 ft. off incredible El Capitan. The best time of year to see Horsetail Falls is near the end of February. If you are here on a clear night in February, be sure to visit this waterfall at sunset. The sun strikes the rock in such a way that it appears Horsetail Falls is on fire. This is an incredible sight to see.

Welcome to The Photo Chain, by now you've gathered this has something to do with photos, it does, but it is so much more, it's a game.

Tumblr is a host to millions of photos every day, there are millions of photoblogs and millions of aspiring photographers, wouldn't it be cool if every photo and it's photographer were some how linked? Along comes a photo chain...

Every photo tells a story, which entitles it to a sequel, that is the gist of a photo chain, it's a series of photos linked together by something in common, in this case, something within the previous photo. It is hard to explain, so here is an example...

We start with a photo, the photo could be of anything, but for this example we'll say it's a photo of a mountain range. Within that photo are many things; trees, clouds, snow, ski lift, so the next photo, the photo you submit is a photo of one of those, say trees. Which means the next photo is of something within the photo of the trees, possibly leaves.

The possibilities are endless, join the chain and submit a photo!

How the chain works

The Photo Chain is a simple concept when you look at it closely, it's a photo-in-photo style project. Here is how you can add to the chain.

So say the photo to the left is the current photo in the photo chain, the most recent addition. The next photo needs to be or have something that is in that current photo, here are some of the options that can be seen:
Grass Green Water

Let's say you chose water, the photo to the right is your submission, it is a photo of a stream with a slow exposure. This is now the current photo, the next photo has to be of something within the new photo, here are some possibilities:
Rocks Water Stream River

Add to the chain

Do you have a photo to contribute? It's very simple, but there are a few rules and guidelines you must follow.

Firstly, the photo doesn't have to be yours, but you must source the original photographer including both first and second name and the location from which the photo was found. If it yours, you need to credit yourself similarly. Photos must be G, no pornography or artistic nudes, gore or anything depicting illegal activities.

Only one photo is selected per previous photo, we choose based on the link, not the quality. The photo submitted must have a link to the most recent photo posted on The Photo Chain. You may submit as many photos per previous photo as you wish, you may also resubmit a photo that wasn't published where relevant.

A description about the photo is nice but optional, however you must tag the photo with the link to the previous photo, ie. city or red.
